Deborah Powney is a lecturer in Policing and Criminology at the University of Central Lancashire. She is also a Phd Psychology researcher in partner abuse & coercive control for female and male victims, with a particular focus on men’s experience.

Deborah prides herself on being an evidence based scholar, taking an inclusive approach to the issue of partner abuse. Having recently conducted two international studies, she provides empirical evidence to influence policy and practice.

As a survivor, she is a passionate and robust advocate for tackling domestic abuse generally and supporting men particularly, and is looking forward to working with Men’s Aid Ireland, and the wider sector, to enable greater recognition and support to male victims and their families.
