Supporting Parents

Parenting is very rewarding but it can be difficult at times, even more so when families are faced with challenging situations. We understand that facing family difficulties like separation, divorce and conflict can be challenging on both parents and children.

Below are some parenting courses Men’s Aid Ireland provide. These courses can help and guide you when you need a little extra support with raising children.

These courses are also recommended by Tusla or can be court ordered.

Parenting Plus: Parenting when Separated programme

A practical and positive evidence-based course for parents who are preparing for, going through or have gone through a separation or divorce.

Family separation can put extra stress on both parents and children and brings new challenges. Drawing on international long-term evidence, the Parenting when Separated Programme is a six week course that highlights practical steps parents can take to help their children cope and thrive as well as coping successfully themselves.

Parenting Plus: Parenting Adolescents Programme

An evidence-based parenting course promoting effective communication and positive relationships in families with adolescents aged 11 to 16 years. The Adolescents Programme considers how parents can connect with and build good relationships with their teenage children, while also being firm and influential in their lives.

The DVD for this programme illustrates well-researched principles of effective communication and conflict resolution which parents can use with their teenagers, with the aim of helping them grow into responsible young adults. As well as role-play scenes and interviews with parents, the DVDs include interviews with young people about what it is like to be a teenager and their views about what makes families run smoothly.
